White
By Gavon Clemons
The lights go out in my room. The room is cold, dark, and my blanket is heavy. It’s pulled up to my face. As I close my eyes, it was the last time I saw black. As I try to open my eyes, I feel the cold and darkness of the room still around me even though I can see the light of the room trying to pierce through my eyes. Eventually, I get my eyes open enough to see some of the room at least. It is white, all the furniture I have my room in the same place, just the room is completely white. I roll over and check my phone charging on my desk. The time says “00:00” with no date or year. I find it odd but think to myself my phone is probably just messed or something. I get up to go see that the rest of the house is white as well. I feel extremely light, almost like I’m floating, like I’m a ghost. Looking out the window I see the outside is normal, so I think to myself well its probably a weird dream or something. I walk in to see my parents are in the kitchen sitting at the table, silent. I pay no attention to it because they often did this in real life, so I continue outside the door, to see what this dream as to offer. Outside there’s no wind and everything is still. The trees don’t sway nor do the dogs bark. Cars are stopped in the middle of the road. I walk up to one of the cars to see what was going on, maybe it had broken down. As I approach the car, I see this woman in the driver seat. I knock on the window and ask her “hey lady are you ok, is everything ok with your car?” She turns her head, or should I say “it” turned its head. The woman, face-less with only a slim mouth, long black hair dressed in grey said, “You’ve been lied to, soon only white will be around you.” I step back from the car and look around. I see all these people with only mouths saying, “White around you, white around you, white around you” repeatedly over and over. I run back into my house and my parents aren’t at the table anymore. I run to my room and see them standing over my bed. I see my feet hanging off the end, relaxed, almost lifeless. I creep around the end of my bed and begin to hear this shushing noise, I look up and my parents, both with full faces and their index finger over their mouths, making this noise. I grab my phone off the desk and begin hitting myself with it to wake myself up, but nothing works. I look at my parents again and then at me on my bed and see duck-tape around my legs, body and arms. I can feel myself fighting to get loose. I can feel my eyes open wider as if somehow, I was connected to dream-me, and by his eyes opening it made my eyes open more. The shushing gets louder and louder my ears feel like exploding, I cover my ears trying to block out some of the noise, and then it all stops. I take my hands off my ears and look up at my parents. With a crooked smile they whisper, “Don’t tell God what we’ve done, everything’s all white.” With a pair of scissors, they proceed to stab me repeatedly in my stomach and chest, taking turns piercing me. I feel each puncture as it enters and leaves my body. Everything around me begins to disappear the furniture, my phone, my bed, my parents everything is gone. The woman was right, everything is white.
