Tired
Vance Murray
I cannot sleep, but I am still tired
Lying awake in the pure dark
While others get the sleep required
The crickets chirping unexpired
While a hound continues to bark
They will keep going, but I am still tired
As if light itself were retired
Into this void, I embark
While others get the sleep required
As time crawls by, I lie wired
Waiting for that sun to spark
I will not sleep, but I am still tired
As I lie with my blankets acquired
I think of the morning so stark
While everyone gets the sleep required
As the suns light enters inspired
At the beginning of the day a mark
I did not sleep, but I am still tired
While others got the sleep required
Murray is a cadet at NMMI.
