It all started so long ago, Where it would go, neither could ever know.
On a full moon night at homecoming, Never thought it would end with feelings of loving.
A brand-new and once-thought-special relationship in the making, Only to be woken up by a mutual friend to a rude awakening.
Though it was never meant to be, To still be friends, she and I could both agree.
In time we healed and became closer, Despite my feelings for her, I maintained my composure.
I know for a fact; we weren’t meant to be, For this reason, I kept these thoughts inside of me.
Through thick and thin, disaster and heartache, I thought our friendship would never break.
Although our friendship did falter many a time, It never truly was a permanent decline.
Through trust, kindness, and forgiveness especially, Our interactions were never anything less than friendly.
Of course, nothing lasts forever, For I was a fool thinking our connection would never sever.
Despite kindness, forgiveness, and always being approachable, It appears now I was never anything more than disposable.
Five years of friendship for which I never would have traded anything, For her, it appeared as simple as cutting a string.
Why she made these choices, I may never know, Surely, it didn’t seem hard for her to let go.
Now I stand, emotionally cast out and disgraced, I have now become nothing more than replaced.
