The Unforgettable Party
David Gleeson
We arrived at the congested front yard of people. It seemed like there were millions of bodies everywhere. Some were in the house, some were scattered in the yard, and some were just passed out on the lawn. The address was 7891 Temptation Boulevard. These kids had to have been rich because the house was at least six-thousand square feet. I felt like I was on another planet. I came with my boys. They were my home dogs, and we literally did everything together. Roman, Travis, Deion, Sam, Kenny, and I walked into the house to find Tyler. My boy Travis was good friends with him and got us in to the lit party. After we had a few drinks, Travis bumped into Tyler. He was wasted out of his mind.
Travis said, “Tyler, crazy party you got here thanks again for the invite!” Tyler said something to the allusion of no problem and that something about the night be unforgettable. But his words were way too slurred to understand what he was talking about. Roman drifted from our group and found this really attractive girl named Becky. Becky seemed to be pretty interested in whatever Roman was talking about, but I was too impaired to concentrate on him. Next thing I knew was that I got into a conversation with someone named Sarah and we were dancing together. The DJ had a good mix of music. The main genre was rap. That seemed to be what everyone listened to nowadays. Sarah was a very good dancer and knew how to have a good time. I was still not sure where the rest of my boys were. “I’m assuming Roman, and his girl were somewhere doing God knows what.”
I became thirsty and told Sarah I needed a drink. So, I headed to the kitchen and poured a strong one out of the ginormous keg. All I remember was that thing went down like water and I was ready to party more. More and more people were building up on the floors. People were passing out left and right. I became concerned and wondered where my home dogs were at. But there was no sign of them anywhere. There were still a ton of people and it’s kinda hard to find your friends in a six-thousand square foot house.
Suddenly there was a blood curdling scream upstairs. It was Becky crying because Roman was unconscious.
Becky said, “He just fell on me, and he started choking and vomiting then I heard his heartbeat die until there was nothing.” I told her to call 911 and tell them to get here ASAP. I began panicking and started crying one of my closest friends had died right in front of me. I kept telling myself this can’t be a reality. Then sprinted downstairs to find the other guys. I grabbed Sarah and said, “I need you to help me find my other friends that I came here with.” I explained to her what they looked like and showed her pictures of them. Before we left Sarah, and I exchanged numbers so we could keep in touch on if we found anyone. We went our separate ways and started our search for Travis, Deion, Sam, and Kenny. I searched everywhere high and low but couldn’t find them anywhere.
The pool was one place I didn’t think to check. When I got over there it was super chaotic and hard to concentrate on my mission. Before I could even start looking, I heard another scream. When I looked over it was like I saw Roman. I began to cry again and lost all my concentration. It was happening all over again I just couldn’t stop thinking about my friend being gone. This time it was some girl holding this guy with no heartbeat. Everyone around us was terrified and began sprinting back to the house because of the traumatizing events they saw. I began to wonder if someone was drugging or poisoning everyone. I realized that I had been drinking throughout the night and needed to stop. I called Sarah and told her to not drink anything else for the rest of the night. We both agreed and kept searching.
As I was looking in the pool, I found Travis making out with some girl in the pool. I rushed over to him and broke up the little session.
I said, “Travis how much have you had to drink?” He said, “Not that much maybe a few beers and a couple margaritas.” I told him to not drink anymore for the night. I explained what happened to Roman and that there could be something terribly wrong. Travis asked if Roman was going to be okay. I sobbed, “He’s already gone, and I don’t know what to do this is all my fault.”
Suddenly my phone rang it was Sarah. She said, “I think I’ve found Deion and Sam.” I told her I found Travis and that he seemed to be fine for now. I asked if Deion and Sam were good.
She said, “Deion is good as of right now but is a little out of it and Sam is just in a really good spirits for some reason.” I said, “Where are you at?” She said, “I’m in the front of the house on the lawn.” I told her that Travis and I are on our way.
Once I made it to the lawn Deion wasn’t looking so hot. A second later he collapsed, and his heart stopped. I told Sarah, “We need to find Kenny and get the hell out of here.” I just wanted to know who was poisoning everyone. Sarah, Sam, Travis, and I went back into the house and found Kenny on the floor in the game room.
Tyler suspiciously popped out of the corner and says, “I don’t know what’s going on but those drinks seemed hella good for everyone.” I began to realize that all the bodies on the floor were dead bodies. Kenny came to his senses, and I told him we need to get the hell out of here because if we don’t people are going to be killed.
We all rushed outside and ran to our car. I tried to figure out if it was Tyler poisoning everyone. But it’s hard to say because either he was trying to get everyone to leave the party, or he was trying to kick me out so I wouldn’t be a witness of all the people getting poisoned. Again, it’s hard to say. Not too long after we left, I heard gun shots come from the party. Everyone was screaming and running in terror. The night just became a nightmare. Sarah was sober enough to drive us home. We were literally going a hundred miles an hour. I told Sarah to step on it because I was so scared of what was going to happen. We dropped Travis, Sam, and Kenny off and made sure they were all good and got to their room safely. I’m always concerned about my boys, so I wanted to make sure they were straight. The night was repeating in my mind all I could see was Roman chocking and vomiting while the poison slowly took his life. Maybe if we just stuck together this wouldn’t have happened. I just kept asking the question why me and why tonight. I saw two of my best friends die over someone who poisoned the drinks at the party.
When Sarah and I got to my house I told her to spend the night because I was too nervous after the night we went through. I set her up in the spare bedroom. It was one in the morning. I decided to talk to her and learn a little more about her because all we did was just dance at the party. She seemed pretty chill. She only lived ten minutes from me and had a lot of interesting stories about where she has traveled to. We ended up sharing a good night’s kiss and I was so happy to collapse in my bed. The next morning, I woke up and saw that the news reported this terrible fire on Temptation Street. The house had major damage and over a hundred people had died including Deion and Roman. The numbness that came through my body stayed with me throughout the rest of my life. I could never forgive myself from the tragic night that transpired on Temptation Blvd.
