The Mysteries of Childhood
Justin Collins
Why do kids feel the need to “explore”? They might already have been through every single area in their neighborhood countless times, and yet still are compelled to go on excursions by themselves or with friends to see what they can find. For instance, when I was a younger child, I would constantly take the dogs for walks or get on my bicycle as an excuse to go exploring my surrounding area. On one of these occasions, I was walking my dog on the sidewalk which had a brick wall on its side farthest from the street. I had walked past this wall many many times, however this time there was a doll’s head sitting atop it. The head was white skinned, and had seemingly greasy, long black hair. Its eyes were colored red (probably with a marker). This thing scared the crap out of the 12 year old me. I remember crying and running back to my house. I didn't walk the dogs for at least a week after that day. When I finally got the nerve to go back, the head was gone, but I could still sense its sinister energy lingering on that wall. It remains a mystery to this day, and will probably be a mystery forever as to why that creepy doll’s head was on that wall.
Collins is no longer scared of dolls. This was a one time occurrence.
