Skins
Brisa Heacox
The lizard man crawls out bed. He walks to his closet where the skin of a Pennsylvania banker hangs like a suit. He obtained this skin by devouring the man’s insides, eating everything but his skin. He has less than 18 hours to get his next skin, or else the one he’s using will melt, revealing his ghoulish reptilian form. He crawls into the skin and leaves his house. He makes his way to the subway. From there, he’ll go to the bank and try to blend in until he can sneak off with his next victim to devour them without raising any suspicion.
He’s standing in the subway train, subtly sizing up everyone on that train. “Which of these people can I kill easily? No. Not until I get to work,” he thought. He notices a woman in the sitting down adjacent to him making quick, nervous glances at him every few minutes, further deterring him from doing any hunting. The subway reaches his stop, and he steps out of the train. Suddenly, he is being ordered to stop by a couple of cops. They have him gave the wall as they hand cuff him, his face pressed into the wall so that can see, at the end of the hallway, a poster with a picture of the Pennsylvania banker that reads “Wanted for Tax Fraud.”
He is taken down to the station and placed in a holding cell, alone. He beings to panic, he has no one to kill, no way out of the bars and the constant gaze of the guards. Many hours have passed. He can feel his skin start to loosen. It’s only a matter of time now before he melts.
