New 40k Army
Yong Jin H. Bessell
James couldn’t hold his excitement to get out of school during his last period. He always went to the local card shop after school, “battlegrounds gaming.” He usually went to the card shop after school but today James was excited for another reason. He recently got into “Warhammer 40k” and his buddies convinced him to start his own army. Today was the day that the first part of his army came in.
James bolted out of class, as he’s running outside to his bike his best friend Jennifer stops him right before he could leave “where do you think you’re going?” exclaimed Jennifer. Jennifer was the president of the student council, she had long wavy hair that she hung down her back, she was wearing baggy sweater and sweatpants, and by just her clothing you would think she was getting ready to work out. Before James had a chance to respond Jennifer was already dragging him back inside.
“Hey! What are you doing I got a be somewhere”?
“Oh yeah, I know exactly where you were running off to and exactly what you were getting away from” Jennifer said almost in a mocking tone. “don’t you remember we need to prepare for the bake sale tomorrow”
“Uh shoot, I completely forgot I am really sorry, but I got to go I promised my buddies that I would be at the shop today”
“Well, it’s too late we’ve been planning this for weeks, we even made an announcement about we need to make sure this holds up to all the hype we built up for it.”
“Ok how about this I bring all the stuff I need to finish and work on it at home, I come to school early and get it all set up before the other students arrive, sound good.”
“Ok, fine, just this once, I can’t keep covering for you.”
“Thanks a bunch, see you later”
Now that James got away from Jennifer, he quickly picked up all the supplies he needed. The student council was preparing a big bake sale and James was tasked with making the grand opening sign as well as laying out all the baked goods neatly. But because he had sports practice and was working on 40k he didn’t have time to make the sign. So in typical fashion James he was making it last minute.
After getting all the supplies he needed and put in his bag he ran outside where his bike was waiting. His bike was nothing to look at, but he did his best to keep it all together. James rode a small street legal dirt bike that he was able to scrap up money for over last summer.
When James got to the card shop, he was just in time his best buds Fred, George, and Cody were all waiting for him. James ran up to George (who was working the afternoon shift) “Hey man did all the stuff arrive!” James yelled excitedly
“Yeah man all the stuff you ordered and a few extra pieces me and the guys put together. Its all waiting for you in the back room.” The back room was where they had all the spray brushes and paint supplies. “Fred and Cody are already waiting for you, I’ll be there in a sec just need to tidy up the store front.”
“Thanks man, you’re the best”
“yeah, don’t mention it.”
James ran to the back, practically skipping with joy. He’s been waiting for these pieces for a few weeks, but it got back ordered so he had to wait a bit longer the expected, but it was all hear. “Hey man what’s up” said Cody when James entered the room.
“Dude I can’t believe its all hear man, George told me that you guys put together a few extra pieces”
“Yeah man, all thanks to Mr. Freddy over here, he found some really good psyckers and what not, he even convinced George to use his employee discount on them”
“Ah you flatter me to much, and I thought we were keeping the psykers as a surprise” Fred says while walking in cleaning his hands with a paint-stained towel. He came from further down in the room, looking as though he was painting, wearing safety goggles, an apron that’s been stained with so many different colors you could barely tell what color it had originally been.
“Just thought I would get your army all set up to be painted, it’s all you now’
“Yo thanks man, that’s awesome.”
James went into the room Fred came from and got already looking almost exactly like Fred did. George comes by to check up on the guys making sure nothings broken. When he finds James huddled in a corner. Right before George asks what happened he sees on the table all the miniature figures splattered in red. George asks what happened and James responds with “I was getting the brush set up when I accidentally pull the trigger and got red all over the army, and now I have no idea what to do. I tried cleaning it off but that didn’t work so now I am just thinking what my next step should be.”
“hey, look man sometimes mistakes are miracles in disguise, maybe you could incorporate the red into your army.”
Which would be the exact opposite color scheme James was going for but he thought might as well give it a try. James got back up and started working again eventually he settled with blood covered Orcs with torn flesh, ripped pieces of blue cloth, and yellow eyes. For his first army it turned out great and he was very happy with the outcome.

I like cooking food with my sister. Can you guess what images are in the pie?
