How I Make Cheese
Sylvia Xu
One day, I woke up craving cheese. I got out of my bed brushed my teeth and went to the kitchen. I opened the fridge and to my sadness, there was no cheese in the fridge. My craving was too much, so I opened Safari and searched for how to make cheese. As soon as I found the ingredients, I started to ravage the kitchen for them. luckily, my parents own a restaurant so I found everything I needed. We had everything needed in the kitchen; it wasn’t even expired yet. I call that win since I didn’t want to leave the house. To my surprise cheese is something that you can easily make with only five ingredients and a lot of steps. I think it’s worth it, it’s pretty delicious and easy to make.
1. To make cheese, you would need 1 ¼ cups of water, 1 ½ cups of citric acid, ¼ rennet tablet or ¼ teaspoon liquid rennet, 1 gallon of milk, and 1 teaspoon of kosher salt.
2. Grab one cup of water; dump it into a bowl. Then add your citric acid and stir until it dissolves.
3. In another bowl add ¼ cup of water; after that add in your rennet. Mix it until it dissolves.
4. Dump your milk and citric solution into a separate pot and put it on medium heat and warm until 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
5. Once the milk reaches the desired temperature, slowly add the rennet solution, and stir; let it rest for 5 minutes undisturbed. After the milk set, it should look like silk tofu.
6. When the milk has finished setting cut it into uniform curds. Place the curds back into the pot and onto the stove and let it warm up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit. The curds will clump together and separate more completely from the yellow whey.
7. Remove the pot from the heat and continue stirring for 5 minutes.
8. Put the curds into a bowl and pop it into a microwave. Microwave it for 1 minute and after putting on a plastic glove and start stretching your cheese. After stretching out your cheese, place it in the microwave and microwave it for 30 more seconds.
9. After that you finally have your cheese, you mold it into any shape you want!
I don’t understand how it works, but if you do it right the ingredients will become cheese. The cheese was scrumptious. Invite your friends over to make cheese and have a cheese party! There we can have fun and talk about boys or teachers that we don’t like. It’ll be great, please invite me. I’ve never been invited to a party; to be honest I've never been invited to anything. I want to know what it feels like to have fun.
