68 Mustang
Luke Dipoma
Liam was quite a simple man who led a simple life. He worked at his local Walgreens as a cashier and lived in a single bedroom apartment with little no friends. He woke up every day at 6:45 am and always had trouble getting out of his California king. Although he was a simple man, his appearance was rather the opposite. he stood at a staggering 6’11 and weighed in at a little over 300 pounds. Three years ago, he promised himself that he would save up for a 1968 Red Mustang. His birthday had finally arrived, and he was happier than ever.
For the past seven months, Liam searched all over the internet trying to find his beloved 68 Mustang. After searching endlessly, he had finally found the car he’s wanted since he was a kid. There was one downside to his dream car, he had to pay in cash. Although three years is a long time to save money, his nine-five job at Walgreens could not support his dream. To be exact the car was $32,000. Unfortunately, he had only saved $17,546.76. He contemplated all throughout the night what he could do to get the remaining money. He thought back to his childhood. His father played for the Celtics for nine years and made an insane amount of money. His father would often throw lavish house parties where he would often flex his money. Most people would think that the smart thing would be to just ask his father for the missing amount of money. Unfortunately, Liam’s dad hasn’t talked to him for over seven years. Ever since Liam denied becoming a wrestler just like his dad, he refused to talk to him. His dad became even more disgusted with his son when he went to his local Walgreens and found his son directing an elderly man to the diaper section.
Instead of thinking like a normal person Liam immediately thought of the large chandelier in the main room of his dad’s house. He remembered his dad telling all his friends the price he paid for his magnificent chandelier. The chandelier was priced at $18,000. This was perfect because it would give him enough money for the car, and some leftover cash to fuel his insanely bad gambling addiction.
Liam came up with a plan over his birthday weekend. He got some advice from an ex-convict that worked at Walgreens with him. His plan was bulletproof until he realized he didn’t have access to his dad’s house. He thought of thousands of ways he could get into the house without his dad knowing. He finally came up with probably one of the worst plans ever. Since his dad saw him at Walgreens, he no longer goes in person to buy stuff. Instead, his dad does an online order every Tuesday. Liam figured he could hide in one of the boxes that usually hold the groceries. He would sneak out of the box once he was in the house and take the chandelier down and make a quiet exit out of the house.
Tuesday had finally come, and Liam had even woken up earlier than he usually does just to prepare for his mission. Once he arrived at work, he began to pack his dad’s purchase. He had finally finished packing the order when he realized that he was 6’11 and couldn’t fit in a two-foot box. He began to think of alternatives before the order had to be shipped. He finally decided that he would trick his dad into thinking he had won a brand-new fridge, but it would actually be him in the box all along. The delivery was finally in progress, and he was on his way to the house. His dad was very skeptical, but after he tried carrying the box inside, he believed that it was actually a fridge based on the sheer weight of it. He was finally inside the house and was ready for his burglary. He waited until he heard nothing and cut himself out. He had forgotten how nice his dad’s house was. He began to journey through what seemed to be endless hallways. He finally made it to the chandelier. He grabbed the pliers that he had brought with him and grabbed a ladder that was conveniently placed on the wall next to him. He began to cut each wire that held the rather large chandelier. He was finally down to the last wire he began cutting it, but he heard a noise that startled him, and he cut straight through it without any precaution. The chandelier came crashing down on him. All he could hear was the glass ripping through his flesh. His legs buckled under themselves and the next thing he knew his femurs were completely shattered. After he heard his femur's shatter, he knew he had made a huge mistake. His dad came rushing in and the last thing he expected to see was his own son smashed by his priceless chandelier.
The next thing Liam knew he was in a hospital bed. He shifted his stiff neck to see his dad sitting down next to him. After his dad heard Liam’s story he burst out in laughter and got up to leave. Liam begged him to stay with him at the hospital. With the money he offered to buy his dad a brand-new chandelier. His dad happily accepted the offer and immediately went shopping for a new one. His dad finally found the one he wanted and went to buy it. The card declined and he immediately called his son. Liam told him that he lost the money months ago on roulette wheel. Never bet on black.
A few years later Liam got a call from his dad. His dad became a Buddhist and had a completely different view of life. His dad told him that he found money useless and wanted to give it all away. Instead of donating his millions to charity, he invested it in Hello Kitty-themed landlines. His dad gave Liam all of the shares he had in the up incoming company. Liam immediately sold the shares and bought himself his red mustang. It only took three days to arrive at his home, but it felt like years to Liam. He rolled onto the driveway and saw his baby. He ran his finger along the sparkly red paint. He opened the door and went to sit down when he realized he was too big.
